Remember that episode of The Simpsons where a hot dog seller stalks Homer Simpson everywhere? And when Marge asked him why he followed Homer to the funeral to sell him food, he replied that he was putting his kid through college?
Israel’s gazlanim are like that. The gazlanim are food and drink vendors who stalk the Israeli army during peacetime maneuvers. Noone knows how the gazlanim figure out where the troops are; but as an Israeli will tell you, odds are they will show up with their truck selling $5 hot dogs and $3 cans of soda in the middle of some godforsaken spot in the Negev or the Lebanese border.
The photo above, taken of a gazlan in the Negev Desert selling ice cream to tank drivers, was chosen as the picture of the year by Israeli newspaper Yedioth. (Via)
